The audience for my
media product would be predominately male teenagers aged between 12 and 18.
Their ethnicity would most likely be white because they are the ethnicity of
the different characters that I have shown. These male teenagers are going to
be students some with a part time job so they can afford to go the see the
film. There is a possibility for some female audiences to attend as well
because they either are fans of the same genre or are interested in the
romantic side of the film. Since my film contains horror, action, adventure,
romance and fantasy genres my audience would be rather wide allowing for
multiple types of people to be interested in the film. For example some people
may like rock music others metal and others techno. This can all be
incorporated into the non-diegetic music that I use. Most teenagers like to go
out with friends and so because this film appeals to multiple people it is
something they can all go and view.
When I first started to
look at the conventions of the genres for my film I had in the back of my mind
what I was capable of doing. It could not be an 18 rated because I cannot
create the gory sections of a horror however I can use harsh language and
strong references in my themes. When I began my research into other films such
as ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, ‘Carrie’ and ‘House of A 1000 Corpses’ along with
‘The British Board of Film Classification’ is when I really thought about what
my rating should be. Through the films I looked at I noticed what sort of films
and representations where shown. I then compared this to what I am capable off
and decided that a low rating such as a 15 would be the best suited. However
this changed after looking at the BBFC and see how they classify films and
their descriptions. This is when I made the classification 12. It was only when I
created the audience profiles that I started to get deeper in what type of
people are most likely going to see my film.
I think that my target
audience will want to see my film because it is a good start for getting into
horror films and because there are a lot of aspects that I have involved that
will attracted them such as incredible action sequences, attractive female
roles, an impressive story line and enough attracting elements to make them
want to see and learn more. My audience would also watch my media product
because it involves many different genres of film that they like such as action
and horror so would like to see whether they can be put together and make an interesting
and exciting block buster.
